What to wear when you are 50!

What to wear when you are 50. Do you remember twin sets? Even though it sounds so old fashioned, I love a great twin set for this age group. And no, I do not mean going back in time, but there are amazing colours available in twin sets. I love to style these twin sets with the draped over the shoulder technique. Team this with a fitted and more skinny style pants and a great pump or loafer. Please just avoid pearls with this look as it will def. make the look seem dated.
Must have items includes: The shirt dress, especially a belted maxi length shirt dress. You will choose colours that fits the wardrobe style, but I do love an olive or khaki colour shirt dress, teamed with a tan leather belt, or the navy or royal blue shift dress for an instant style update. Do not be scared to style sneakers for your 50year old client, but if the sneaker is too trendy, the shift dress does look great with a loafer shoe as well. A great A-line skirt – The A-line skirt is the perfect fit for this age group, styled in an elegant way, you can really use this item for any type of dress code, casual, smart casual and even to more formal events.
Tuxedo jacket – The tuxedo jacket will update any wardrobe, especially when you style them with a cuffed denim or with a great pump or loafer. A stylish and modern leather jacket – If you find the correct type of leather jacket, this can be one of the statement pieces in the wardrobe.
Dark denim – You cannot go wrong with adding dark denims to the wardrobe. Choose a straight-leg or as alternative you can try boot legs as well. Just be careful with the bootleg as it does tend to make any look more mature. White jeans (boot-cut or straight-leg) - Although white denims can be considered as a young-woman’s garment, white denim has a way to freshen up anyone, no matter what the age. Team the white denim with a light brown leather belt and use accentuating colours to bring joy to the outfit.
Other basic items to add to the wardrobe are: Great-fitting pants. Fitted blazer. Black pencil skirt Cardigans. Tank tops. New styles: Modernising your client’s style will be less challenging than what you think. There are great styles and items out there to make your client feel like she is part of the trend cycles. Colour blocking styles are a great way to instantly modernise your client’s wardrobe. Neutral colours styled with soft colours or bold colours to give the skin colour again. An example of neutral colours combined with bold colours. Know how to guide your client to current trends and matching them to her style with more classic pieces. Coach your client to wear modern trends with a more classic approach to make the trend and fashion style more age appropriate. Destressed denim or cuffing denim is a good example of how-to bring fashion into the 50-year-old wardrobe. Minimalist style with a pop of bold prints One of my absolute favourite styles for this age group is using a minimalistic approach with print in subtle colours and then combining it with a great focal point, as indicated in this image. Shirt dresses Style inspirations for the 50-year-old client: Nicole Kidman – Nicole is the perfect example of a romantic and classic style matched together. Inspire your client to look at Nicole’s style, especially if your client is rather tall and slender. My personal favourite style from Nicole is her interpretation of wearing denims with scarfs and matching it with a great blazer. Kate Blanchet Michelle Obama – Because of her career and role she adapted a classic style. She’s got an athletic build and her body frame is a mesomorph. She is a great example of how to style this body frame to look more feminine, especially her broad shoulders.
