Dress like the boss that you are!!!

Dress like a Boss
How do we convey authority and competence at work? A quick story: I had a client who is a top financial forecaster. One of three woman in her field. She does international training and are highly intelligent. When I met her, she wanted to hire a life coach, feeling that she just doesn’t fit in and that the men in her office are not relating to her. She wanted to take up golfing and dress more masculine. I did a simple dress like a boss exercise with her and we decided that we are going to explore her femininity more. I chose corporate dresses, tailored suits with feminine blouses, we basically went in the opposite direction. My reasoning was, that you do not change who you are to satisfy the people around you or to make you more relatible, you just dress like the boss that you are!! I believe that succesful dressing methods and understanding your own personal style and identity can solve most problems. She phoned me one day to tell me that my theory has worked. That she was giving a presentation, the same presentation that she gave before to her peers, and that wasn't well received, but after her makeover with me, and after softening her appearance, one of her male peers, and someone she held in high regard came up to her and said, his mind was blown by her presentation” BOOM! SUCCESS! Power dressing is a tool that we all need to take more advantage of. It lies in the subtle changes, and it lies in exuting your own power and strength. When capsuling your wardrobe, I want you to think about this story. How do you make people see you again? What items must you combine to make the message you want to convey, stronger? Here are some of my DRESS LIKE A BOSS tips: • Have a go to colour. • Have a uniform that suits your dress style and your personality (you might go to war some days) • Have jackets and coats that says I’m a success and I’m not scared • Pay attention to accessories • Grooming is vital
Be inspired: When designing your wardrobe capsule (read my blog about capsule wardrobe), I want you to be inspired. Your corporate wardrobe should be a silent assassinator. Mixing and matching your items so cleverly that you look like you have been in a top position your whole life. It does not matter what your job title is. Take inspiration from people around you. What can you bring into your own wardrobe to look more successful? Never worn jeans to work? Try it out, try a beautiful formal pair of dark denims, pair it with an interesting blazer and a stunning heel in a nude or even a colour. Explore new ideas, no matter what your age. Create a vision board of ideal capsules that you would like to try. New colour ideas, you have never explored. Follow my easy steps to put new outfits together. Maybe you have never tried a printed pump, like leopard print with a navy dress and a tan belt. Being inspired by your newfound adventurous self will do wonders for your self-esteem. See yourself as a canvas or piece of art. We are never too old to try new things.
